Build your own custom help file from the TechNet Online Library.

I just noticed this great tool that makes it possible to create your own help files from the online docs. I often travel around and being able to have updated docs with me is just so great.

There are some prerequisite, but they are all documented on the tool page so go get it here and start building your offline docs.

1. Install the prerequisites

2. Start the application

3. Choose your Library from the Library menu (MSDN/TechNet)

4. Select the topics you want to package. There are 2 options when you may want to use the one that selects all the child objects as well so right click and choose “ Select this node and all children” if you want it all that is.

5.When you have made your selections you can directly export the file to *.hxs or *.chm from the File Menu.  I prefer ‘*.chm and what I also do is to save my selection first so that I can reuse it.

6. And now you have your custom chm file. Wihooo

Hope it helps someone out there at least it does it for me.

Config Mgr IIS Prereqs with ServerManagerCmd on Windows 2008

If you are installing Configuration Manager on a Windows 2008 box you need to fullfill some prerequsites to install it as a Site System.

 I prefferably use ServerManagerCmd to install most of thoose prereqs.

Here are some hint for the IIS prereqs.

IIS Prereqs

ServerManagerCmd -i Web-Server
ServerManagerCmd -i Web-Static-Content
ServerManagerCmd -i Web-Asp-Net
ServerManagerCmd -i Web-ASP
ServerManagerCmd -i Web-Mgmt-Compat
ServerManagerCmd -i Web-Windows-Auth
ServerManagerCmd -i BITS
ServerManagerCmd -i RDC

You also need to add webdav and configure it according to these instructions.

Tech-Ed EMEA Connect

I just discovered the Tech-Ed EMEA Connect site If you are attending you might find it usefull to find other peers that are in the same situation. And you may through the connect site find interesting discussions.

Tech-Ed is really about going to good sessions finding peers that you can have use of in your work. Peers and user grouping is a really good thing so take the chance to meet new peers here in Barcelona.

Tech Ed Registration

I have spent the weekend in a rainy  Barcelona although the food and the beverage is like always very good. Today the registration opens at 10.00 and soon people will be arriving to the event.

Although if you still have a chance to pack water resistant clothes do that because its raining heavily and will be for the next week according to forecast.

Getting ready for TechEd IT Pro Barcelona

Today I arrived to Barcelona for some work before next weeks big event. The coming week I will be at TechEd IT Professionals at the CCIB. You will find me in the ATE (Ask The Experts) booth for System Center Configuration Manager. So if you are attending please come by and visit and we can discuss Config Mgr.
